A little bit about me...
My name is Quim, and I am from Terrassa (Barcelona). I love dogs, field hockey, nature and games. Since I was very young I was pationate about biology and computers, and now I work in a combination of both.
I studied a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The studies were diverse, ranging from understanding molecular biology to designing bioreactors.
I started my first professional experiences in microbiology labs. For instance, at CReSA, I collaborated in the development of a vaccine against the African swine Fever.
Soon, though, I discovered Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, and I started to learn more about dry labs.
I studied a Master's degree in Bioinformatics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
I learned to code in Python, R and Perl, and also machine learning, web (Flask, PHP, JavaScript) and database (MySQL) development. Everything was applied to the fields of Genomics, Proteomics, Systems Biology and Pharmacoinformatics.
I made my master thesis at the Structural Bioinformatics Lab of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, supervised by Baldo Oliva.
I made an Erasmus internship at Helmholtz Zentrum in Munich, supervised by Monica Campillos.
I started my PhD thesis in the Structural Bioinformatics Lab, supervised by Baldo Oliva and Narcis Fernandez-Fuentes.
My thesis was about Network Medicine, a discipline that organizes molecular interactions in networks, and uses our knowledge about networks to understand better diseases and improve medicine.
I defended my thesis, entitled In silico tools to study diseases and polypharmacology through the lens of network medicine in July of 2021.
I started a postdoc at Barabasi Lab. Here, I make Network Medicine research about the analysis of biological networks (such as protein-protein interaction networks) and other types of multi-omics data.
